Define the storage task
For a team preparing instruments for use, list which devices mount in a rack and which remain in cases or trays. Record connections, handling instructions and identification needs. A standard shelf is not automatically a suitable support for sensitive equipment. Ask the responsible technical team to define environmental and handling requirements before deciding that an open frame or cabinet is appropriate.
Compare the right starting points
A desktop equipment rack may address a small group of compatible devices; a floor frame offers a different service envelope. Separate the device-mounting brief from component storage so the right questions reach the right reviewer. Include rear access and the planned route to the work area. Any vibration, electrostatic or environmental performance needs specific evidence rather than an inference from the product category.
A useful brief for this project
- Device or protective-case dimensions
- Handling and environmental requirements
- Connection and identification access
Planning question
Does a rack category imply protection for precision instruments?+
No. State the protection required and provide device documentation. Supports and enclosure performance must be verified for the actual equipment and setting.
