RACK & STORAGE SOLUTIONS FOR CANADIAN SPACES
BUYING GUIDE

Choosing pallet racking

Start with the goods and the picking pattern. A useful pallet-racking enquiry describes how pallets enter storage, how long they stay and how they are selected for dispatch.

Compare access patterns

Selective layouts give individual pallet positions an aisle face. Drive-in layouts group pallets in deeper lanes, changing the access pattern. Push-back and pallet-flow arrangements introduce moving supports or controlled travel. These are different handling systems, not interchangeable levels of quality. Start with stock lines, pallets per line and retrieval order before considering density.

Prepare a load and equipment brief

Record actual pallet construction, dimensions, condition and loaded weights. Include overhang and unstable or unusual loads rather than assuming every pallet behaves the same way. Identify the handling equipment and provide existing layout information. A bay count without this information can hide a mismatch between the support arrangement and the goods.

Ask for a site-specific assessment

Floor conditions, structural design, anchoring and circulation require appropriately qualified review. Include replenishment, returns and dispatch staging so the discussion covers the operation rather than isolated rows. For an existing system, retain identification and drawings. Do not mix components or change beam positions on the assumption that visual similarity establishes compatibility.

Planning question

Is the densest layout always the best choice?+

No. Access, replenishment and stock rotation can matter more than the number of positions. Compare those tasks before settling on a storage arrangement.
