RACK & STORAGE SOLUTIONS FOR CANADIAN SPACES
BUYING GUIDE

Choosing bicycle storage for shared spaces

Bicycle storage should fit both the bicycles and the people retrieving them. A compact parking arrangement is only useful if users can reach their own bicycle without an awkward lift or blocked aisle.

List the real bicycle mix

Record tire widths, wheel sizes, handlebars, accessories and any unusually heavy bicycles. Include how often each is used. A frame or wheel contact that suits one bicycle may not suit another, and fenders or child seats can change the clearance needed. Ask for compatibility rather than assuming one holder suits all bikes.

Compare floor and wall access

Floor parking can avoid lifting but uses a different footprint. Wall arrangements may free floor area while requiring lifting and suitable wall support. Assess the entire retrieval movement, including handlebars passing adjacent bicycles. In shared spaces, include users who cannot comfortably lift their bicycle and identify an accessible alternative in the layout.

Keep parking and security distinct

A place to stand or hang a bicycle does not automatically provide a suitable locking point or theft protection. Describe any security requirement separately and confirm the selected product’s intended use. Vehicle bicycle carriers are for a different task and should not be treated as indoor parking systems without manufacturer support.

Planning question

Can a vehicle bike carrier serve as permanent room storage?+

That is a different use. Confirm the manufacturer’s intended application and suitable support rather than assuming transport equipment is an approved room fixture.
